Car Theft in West Palm is a Troubling Trend
Experts have been reporting a strong decline in the number of car thefts over the past decade. This decline may be a result of new and improved security technology, better response rates on the side of law enforcement, or a variety of other reasons. However, the Palm Beach Post has recently published an article attesting that fun fact, after a near decade of declining car thefts, grand theft auto seems to be a crime on the rise yet again. More often than not, cars are stolen and used to commit other crimes, or are stripped and sold for parts.
Pill Mill Kingpin Ordered to Pay Victim's Family Millions
Jeff George, often discussed in previous posts as a kingpin of pill mills, has finally been ordered to pay financial restitution to the family of 24-year-old Joey Bartolucci who died from overdosing on narcotics in 2009, supplied by the pill mills operated by the George brothers. Pill mills are pain clinics that often prescribed powerful narcotics like Oxycodone without discretion. These operations are under extreme scrutiny and heavy investigation because of the rising number of Oxycodone related overdose deaths. It is simply just too easy for addicts and drug dealers to get their hands on powerful prescription drugs.
'Cookie Monster' Arrested and Released for Violating Probation
Probation is a sentence ordered by a judge that allows a convicted criminal to live in society under the strict supervision or regulation by a probation officer. Probation does allow someone to resume somewhat of a normal life but the restrictions are often up to the judge or the probation officer. In this case, the 'Cookie Monster,' Stefanie Woods, was arrested for violating her probation because she failed to turn in a gas receipt, show up for a meeting with a probation officer and failed to be at her designated locations at the time allotted. The prosecuting attorney argued fervently that this convicted felon, with a long history of crime, should not be allowed back into society.
BSO Shoot Unarmed Black Male Without Cause
No, this story is not about Trayvon Martin. However, with all the media attention, publicity, and rallies surrounding the Trayvon Martin shooting, other similar cases are garnering a little more attention than they normally would have. In Pompano Beach, an unarmed black male was napping in a vehicle when he was shot multiple times by Broward Sheriff's deputies - one of which was a star on the reality TV show "Police Women of Broward County." It an open investigation and although the story is still unclear, at the end of the day, an unarmed black male was shot by a police officer, giving the case some room in the media spotlight.
Another Doctor Arrested for Trafficking Oxycodone
South Florida is known as the pain-pill capital of the country for a reason. With hundreds of pain clinics flourishing throughout St. Lucie County, Broward County, and Palm Beach County, addicts and doctor-shoppers will drive from states as far as Ohio to reap the benefits of pill mills and dispensing doctors. Police who track operations say that even though many pain clinics operate legally, people can often be seen driving from clinic to clinic procuring hundreds of pills at a time. Even though Florida legislation has attempted to regulate the doctor shopping epidemic, doctors continue to supply drug addicts and dealers with pills.
Will the Super Bowl Lead to a Spike in Criminal Activity?
Experts are saying where the demand is, that's where the supply will be. Leading news reporters and experts on criminal trends are reporting that when large nationwide events occur, a spike in criminal activity is likely to happen. Law enforcement officers are turning their eyes away from Super Bowl XLVI this weekend in order to focus on potential criminal activity, likely to happen wherever large groups of people congregate for this special event.
Officer Arrested for Illegal Arrest in Broward County
When officers of the law are arrested, the public usually sees the case on the news because officers generally always fight the charges. This is usually because if they are convicted, they will never again be able to be officers of the law. In Broward County, a Sheriff’s deputy is facing this dilemma after conducting a suspicious arrest while off duty. His accuser allegedly has a video recording of the incident.

Update: Fort Lauderdale Cops Surrender and Criminally Charged
It seems that we are hearing about cops committing crimes more often these days. It has been rumored that when police officers are charged with crimes, they suffer sentences that are much less severe than those of average citizens. This is evidenced by the fact that even when law enforcement officers are on leave after the crime surfaced, they are still paid.
Why BSO is Saying Lock Your Doors
Burglary is a crime where the charges can depend on the monetary value of the items stolen. While unfortunate, burglary is very common especially in South Florida. This summer, the rate of stolen AC units for the copper materials reached an all time high. Cars are a constant target, especially for electronics like GPS units and other items of value left in the vehicle.
