According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, over 1,000 DUI arrests have been made since January 1st. Because of this extremely high number, a new program has been put into affect to help police catch and arrest drunk drivers. Mobile Eyes against Drunk Driving The new program is called “Mobile Eyes Against Drunk Driving.” The program encourages drivers to call 911 and alert Palm Beach County police of erratic or unsafe drivers. The catch is, if a DUI arrest is made before a potential accident based on your tip, you get a $100 reward from the program. A 19-year-old will be spending a long time in prison for driving drunk, crashing and killing a man. Beruch Zegeye, then 17, had spent a day partying with other Benjamin high school students, ingesting multiple Xanax tablets and drinking beer. Although his friends took his keys from him, he found them and chose to drive. Traveling at 80 miles per hour in his father’s Porsche, he slammed into the back of 45-year-old pizza deliveryman, Paul Krommendyk’s car in Palm Beach Garden in September 2008. Former New York Yankee player Jim Leyritz is standing trial for his DUI manslaughter charges from December 2007. Witnesses will testify that Leyritz ran a red light when he crashed into another vehicle in a Fort Lauderdale intersection and crashed into a vehicle, killing a woman, prosecutor said in her opening statement Monday, according to WPTV News. Leyritz is in a very serious situation as he is accused of driving under the influence, running a red light, and crashing into a vehicle driven by Veitch, 30, a mother of two. Hundreds of teenagers were drinking, drunk, sick or passed out at a private homecoming party held at a mansion in an upscale Boca Raton neighborhood on Sunday, according to WPTV News. Police arrived after a medical emergency call from security officers at The Sanctuary. According to the police report, officers found about 100 juveniles drinking outside; five were vomiting and four teenage girls were lying unconscious on the front lawn. Those four teens were taken to Boca Raton Regional Hospital, police said, and six teens and two adults were taken into custody.
