The legislation mostly focuses on the purchase and care of animals. Pet stores must now disclose the medical histories and birthplaces of individual animals. Guard dogs now must be licensed and stored in cages of a certain size. Child abuse is a crime not often reported by the victim. In many cases, teachers, neighbors, and other friends of the family are the ones to report suspected child abuse. Once reported, the investigation process is thorough and exhausting. According to WPTV News, the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Amber Koebernik for aggravated child abuse with serious bodily injury on Thursday, March 10th. Earlier in the week, deputies arrived at Raulerson Hospital, in reference to a Department of Children and Families investigation. Hospital personnel informed the authorities that the child had arrived with three fractured ribs, a bruised liver, and a punctured lung. The DEA’s ban on synthetic marijuana was approved late last year. A Boca Raton company made a version of the product called “Mary Joy.” Their lawyer, Thomas Wright, said it stopped making the fake marijuana when the ban went into effect and on Monday night, they turned in to the police what they had left. “This product is sold as an incense, yet apparently people are smoking it,” said Wright.
