A Greenacres woman is facing DUI and child neglect charges today after police say her teenage daughter was in the vehicle with her as she drove impaired. Greenacres police arrested Martina Cecilia Ramirez, 45, in the area of South Jog Road and 10th Avenue North Wednesday night. She is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail this afternoon in lieu of $3,000. During the traffic stop, the affidavit says Ramirez told the officer she had been drinking coffee but not alcohol. She pointed to a 20 oz. Styrofoam coffee cup with a white lid and straw, which was sitting in a cup holder. After federal agents received a call on their tip line from a concerned pharmacist reporting suspicious prescriptions, federal agents went to work, eventually identifying 45 South Florida residents allegedly responsible for lining the streets with prescription pills and selling them for at least $20 a pop. Seventeen of those named in the indictment, which is being prosecuted by the Palm Beach County State’s Attorney’s Office, were arrested Thursday throughout the county. In addition to the 17 arrests, DEA agents working with other law enforcement agencies, including the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, picked up one gun, about 2 pounds of cocaine and around $7,000 in cash. Trafficking in Cocaine and Sale

A Boynton Beach man is facing drug charges after authorities alleged that he used a tow truck business to transport large quantities of cocaine from Texas. Joel R. Hinojosa, 37, was arrested Wednesday on allegations of operating a criminal organization, trafficking in cocaine and sale of cocaine. He remains in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, jail record showed. Police allege that Hinojosa has operated the criminal enterprise since about November 2010. A confidential source told investigators from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Delray Beach Police Department that Hinojosa owns and operates a landscaping business and tow trucking companies in South Florida. A registered nurse in Royal Palm allegedly filled numerous fraudulent prescriptions for herself and her husband using the signature of a doctor who once employed her. In all, deputies say Heather Carmichael duped the pharmacies out of six pounds of pills in two months. Carmichael, 42, now stands charged with drug trafficking. According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report: On Aug. 1, Dr. Christopher Devine, of Wellington, got a visit from Lawrence Deyoung, pharmacy manager of a Royal Palm Walgreens. Sitting in Devine’s office, Deyoung pulled out a woman’s Oxycodone prescription he had rejected earlier in the day. With a can of Four Loko alcoholic drink still cold to the touch in his truck and a crack cocaine pipe in his pocket, a Palm Beach County Fire Rescue firefighter allegedly waved down a police officer for help in reporting a robbery. Now Mark Freseman, 45, of North Palm Beach faces criminal charges including possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of medication without a prescription. But the county’s top animal investigators said that in the span of two months, one sick horse ended up becoming two dead horses and 13 sick ones, and they placed that blame squarely on Janet Greene, the horse’s owner of record. Lapsley, 33, was charged with one count each of trafficking in cannabis and possession of cannabis over 20 grams. He was booked in the Palm Beach County Jail Wednesday and released Thursday on $18,000 bond. Sheriff’s narcotics agents found about 78 pounds of cannabis inside the home, according to an arrest report. The agents obtained a search warrant on Tuesday and conducted surveillance outside the home the following morning. The agents continued watch through the afternoon, when Lapsley went to his car and backed out of the driveway, the report said. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and detained Lapsley while other agents executed the search warrant at his home.
