How Petty Theft Can Have Serious Consequences
According to an amusing story in WPTV News Channel 5 a man was arrested in St. Lucie County, FL for hiding two pounds of hot dogs in his pants before fleeing a grocery store. He has been charged with misdemeanor theft.
The story was quite lighthearted, an excerpt is included below:
Hot Dog Theft
If you have been accused of misdemeanor theft, ask a criminal defense attorney about what suitable actions to take next.
A loss prevention worker at a Publix at South U.S. 1 and Prima Vista Boulevard last week told investigators she saw a man later identified as Allan Polhemus on aisle five “conceal a package of hot dogs in his pants,” an affidavit states.
The 32 ounce package of Publix jumbo beef franks was valued at $6.99. The wiener packaging describes the dogs as “meaty & delicious” and as having “no fillers.”
The loss prevention worker told St. Lucie County Sheriff’s deputies she contacted Polhemus, 52, in the parking lot and asked him to come back in the store. She said a manager called 911.
Deputies took Polhemus, of the 6100 block of Birch Drive in Fort Pierce, to jail and took photos of the franks, which often are served in a pre-sliced bun with relish, ketchup and mustard.
Although the man was only charged with a misdemeanor charge, he should immediately contact an experienced criminal defense lawyer.
An experienced criminal defense lawye
r can give anyone accused of a crime (whether it is a petty misdemeanor
or a second degree felony
), clarification on their situation and the most suitable actions to take.
