How Sexual Battery Can Happen Anywhere
According to the Palm Beach Post, a man was arrested Friday for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl. When questioned by police, the man responded that the girl was his girlfriend and he was on his honeymoon.
Isaias Salas Morales, 36, was arrested on kidnapping and sexual assault charges. He was taken into custody without any resistance or incident. The girl told her mother after the incident that Morales had sexually battered her in his home, according to the Palm Beach Post.
The girl reported to police that she was walking past Morales’ home on 43rd Street when he grabbed her from behind and muffled her with his hand. He then dragged the girl into his home and into his bedroom. When she tried to call her mother he threw her phone across the room. He also threatened to kill the girl’s mother and her uncle if she told anyone what happened. Morales raped her, and allowed her to leave.
Morales told police that the girl was his girlfriend, they had been dating for four months, then later stated they were on their honeymoon, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Sexual battery and assault is and always has been a serious problem. Women are the victims of sex-related crimes way too often. Statistics say that 683,000 forcible rapes occur every year in the US, which comes down to 1.3 forcible rapes every minute.
Sexual battery is defined as oral, anal, or vaginal penetration by, or union with, the sexual organ of another, or the anal or vaginal penetration of another by any other object; however, sexual battery does not include an act done for a bona fide medical purpose.
