What Happens When Child Abuse is Reported?

Child abuse is a crime not often reported by the victim. In many cases, teachers, neighbors, and other friends of the family are the ones to report suspected child abuse. Once reported, the investigation process is thorough and exhausting. According to WPTV News, the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Amber Koebernik for aggravated child abuse with serious bodily injury on Thursday, March 10th. Earlier in the week, deputies arrived at Raulerson Hospital, in reference to a Department of Children and Families investigation. Hospital personnel informed the authorities that the child had arrived with three fractured ribs, a bruised liver, and a punctured lung. In an interview, Koebernik said the child felt warm, as if she had a fever, and was advised by her father to call 911 for an ambulance.… […]
