Janet Greene and her husband Craig have said the health of their treasured horses failed in a calamity that began with their unexpected eviction and was compounded by Tropical Storm Isaac (source, full story). But the county’s top animal investigators said that in the span of two months, one sick horse ended up becoming two dead horses and 13 sick ones, and they placed that blame squarely on Janet Greene, the horse’s owner of record. Wednesday, three weeks after her horses were confiscated from a Loxahatchee Groves property, Greene was charged with 13 counts of animal cruelty and one count of confining the animals without enough food. Jupiter Man Arrested On Charges Of Operating Grow House

Lapsley, 33, was charged with one count each of trafficking in cannabis and possession of cannabis over 20 grams. He was booked in the Palm Beach County Jail Wednesday and released Thursday on $18,000 bond. Sheriff’s narcotics agents found about 78 pounds of cannabis inside the home, according to an arrest report. The agents obtained a search warrant on Tuesday and conducted surveillance outside the home the following morning. The agents continued watch through the afternoon, when Lapsley went to his car and backed out of the driveway, the report said. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and detained Lapsley while other agents executed the search warrant at his home. The investigation began in March with the discovery that 49 Aventura police officers and six other people connected to the city government were victims of identity theft and tax fraud in the 2011 income tax season, authorities said. On Tuesday, the inquiry led to six South Florida residents being indicted on charges they operated a major identity theft ring out of a Pompano Beach home on the 1200 block of Northeast Fifth Street. The gang of alleged oxycodone peddlers chose places to do business that they thought wouldn’t attract the law: a barbecue restaurant in Boynton Beach, a gas station on Yamato Road, a glass shop in Boca Raton, even a Best Buy. Retail stores are a safe location to conduct drug transactions because “police do not gear their attention to that sort of activity,” one of the alleged drug dealers told an undercover officer, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s probable cause affidavit. But the alleged dealers apparently were wrong. The group of at least 12 were involved in the ring from 2010 to 2012 and have since been arrested on charges including racketeering and trafficking in oxycodone. PALM BEACH GARDENS — A man who went to a Palm Beach Gardens apartment late Monday thinking he was going to meet a woman named “Karry Parie” instead became the victim of an armed robbery, city police said. Police arrested Mark Coleman, 18, of Palm Beach Gardens and a 17-year-old boy on charges of armed robbery and grand theft after alleging they robbed the man at an apartment in the 3400 block of Periwinkle Court. The 17-year-old suspect’s name is being withheld because of his age. A judge this morning ordered former South Palm Beach Mayor Marty Millar be released under supervision from jail. Millar, who is facing charges of aggravated battery and resisting an officer with violence, was also ordered to consume no alcohol and have no contact with the alleged victim in the case. Millar is accused attacking a man at the Dirty Martini in Downtown at the Gardens off Lake Victoria Gardens Avenue on Thursday because the man had left a previous bar with Millar’s girlfriend. Millar, 66, allegedly used a black flashlight to attack the man, according to the arrest report. A town police officer who reportedly damaged a police vehicle while on duty and then failed a drug test was fired today, Palm Beach officials said. Officer Levente Henter, who had been with the department since 2004, was dismissed because of a June 24 incident on Via Bellaria, the town said. According to the termination notice released today, Henter was involved in an accident while responding to an alarm call in the 200 block of the street, which is on the Intracoastal Waterway side of the island north of Southern Boulevard. West Palm Beach man was arrested on Thursday, accused of beating his girlfriend with a “wooden 2×4.” Steve Devon Bedward, 27, is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail on charges of aggravated battery. West Palm Beach Police officers were sent to the couple’s home in the 1000 block of Selkirk Street to reports of a domestic violence incident. When they arrived, they spoke with Bedward’s 43-year-old girlfriend, who had a “bloody lip and raised red marks on her right upper arm,” according to the arrest report. Boynton Beach police have arrested two men who they believe rammed a car into a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s cruiser Thursday. Police say they caught Timothy Anderson, 26, of Boynton Beach, as he tried to run from the car. Another man ran from the car into a stranger’s home to hide, police said. Police followed and captured Kashus Davis, 27, of West Palm Beach in the home. Davis remains in jail this morning facing charges that include aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding authorities, possession of marijuana, cocaine and , burglary to an occupied residence, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. A priest who in June left his job at St. Clare Catholic Church in North Palm Beach, pledging to prove he was innocent of shoplifting, this week was placed on probation for 18 months and ordered to pay $895 restitution to Neiman Marcus for the picture frame he stole from its Boca Raton store in December. Rev. Giuseppe Savaia, 43, refused to confess but agreed that a guilty plea was in his best interest, said prosecutor Kirk Volker. Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Richard Oftedal withheld adjudication before placing Savaia on probation, ordering him to take a theft abatement course and to get psychological treatment.
