According to an article in WPTV News, a 37-year-old Ft. Pierce woman accused of giving prescription pills to a 16-year-old girl was held Monday in the St. Lucie County jail, according to an arrest affidavit and a jail official. Lisa Bennett, of the 5900 block of Hickory Drive in Fort Pierce, was arrested last week on charges including dispensing a prescription without a license, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and child abuse. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a case involving alprazolam at Port St. Lucie High School. The 16-year-old girl suspected in the case said her mother’s “live-in friend” — Bennett — gave her five pills to sell at school. 135 Arrested in Oxycodone Bust

According to an article in Ocala.com, authorities arrested 135 people and seized more than $150,000 in drugs in a nearly four-month crackdown on the trafficking of prescription pills in North Florida. Fifty-eight of those arrested were nabbed in Marion County during the effort, which was dubbed “Operation Growing Pains.” It began Sept. 1 and concluded Dec. 15 and involved law enforcement officials from the North Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. HIDTA, as it’s known, is made up of counties stretching from Jacksonville to Ocala. The operation targeted illegal sales of prescription pills, pill mills, doctor-shopping and prescription drug frauds throughout North Florida. In all, agents seized 16,978 pills with a street value of $152,823 and made 135 arrests. The total value of pills, assets and currency seized was $4,337,977.08.… […]

Fighting an Oxycodone Drug Traffic Charge in West Palm Beach

A man who tried to buy 1,300 oxycodone pills and sell them in Boston was recently arrested. Rony Exantus was booked on a federal attempted drug possession charge when his supplier turned out to be an undercover police officer. A Palm Beach County Sheriff narcotics officer posed as a pill supplier and brokered a deal to sell Exantus 1,300 oxycodone tablets for $23,400. The agent met Exantus in a Home Depot parking lot in West Palm Beach and exchanged a gym bag full of fake painkillers for a box full of cash. Exantus was then taken into custody and is now being held without bail. These kinds of arrests are becoming more common in Palm Beach County.
