Quinton Mitchell, a Bahamian national, was arrested last week and now is facing federal charges in the alleged marijuana trafficking operation off Jupiter Island. There were 3 other men involved in pot smuggling operation and authorities are still searching for the other passengers who were on the boat. To help with investigation, other agencies were involved and they include: investigators from Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Agency, Jupiter Island police, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Florida Fish and Wildlife. According to federal officials, the bales of marijuana weighed about 520 pounds in total and that the street value of the drugs was estimated to be about $1.6 million. A man in search of a better life in the United States is now facing federal jail time after he was caught smuggling in cocaine, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. Lephaine J. Charles was taken into custody around 1 a.m. Tuesday after Juno Beach and Jupiter police agencies were called to investigate a boat that washed ashore. An exact location of where the boat was found was not given in a DEA criminal complaint. Also arrested was Rick Davis, a Bahamian national, who faces immigration charges. Trafficking in Cocaine and Sale

A Boynton Beach man is facing drug charges after authorities alleged that he used a tow truck business to transport large quantities of cocaine from Texas. Joel R. Hinojosa, 37, was arrested Wednesday on allegations of operating a criminal organization, trafficking in cocaine and sale of cocaine. He remains in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, jail record showed. Police allege that Hinojosa has operated the criminal enterprise since about November 2010. A confidential source told investigators from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Delray Beach Police Department that Hinojosa owns and operates a landscaping business and tow trucking companies in South Florida. The gang of alleged oxycodone peddlers chose places to do business that they thought wouldn’t attract the law: a barbecue restaurant in Boynton Beach, a gas station on Yamato Road, a glass shop in Boca Raton, even a Best Buy. Retail stores are a safe location to conduct drug transactions because “police do not gear their attention to that sort of activity,” one of the alleged drug dealers told an undercover officer, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s probable cause affidavit. But the alleged dealers apparently were wrong. The group of at least 12 were involved in the ring from 2010 to 2012 and have since been arrested on charges including racketeering and trafficking in oxycodone.
