Gangs on the rise
West Palm Beach County’s gang problem has been on the rise for the past few years. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw had created a federal task force to combat the escalating issue. According to West Palm Beach News:
In 2006, the county saw the highest number of murders in more than a decade…101 slayings.”
The Palm Beach Post reported that “48 of the 101 slayings were gang related.”
Sheriff Bradshaw’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, however, as only 9 of this year’s homicides have been gang-related. Now, authorities are focusing their efforts on robbery related homicides. There were two robberies in the month of April of this year, that resulted in the death of all three convenience store clerks involved.
West Palm Beach Detective Adam Myers said to the Palm Beach Post:
It’s just the blatant disregard for human life (that’s troubling).”
