Why Gun Shop Owners Need to Invest in Security Systems

1The owner of a gun outlet is only beginning to estimate the damages after discovering an incredible number of missing firearms. An employee arrived for work Saturday morning and found the shop destroyed.

David Milstad, the owner of the shop, stated:

“…Ammunition was scattered everywhere, I have $10,000 worth of ammunition, I don’t know how much they took,”

According to detectives, the thieves apparently had a well thought out plan. Rather than bothering with the steel gate at the gun shop, the thieves broke into an empty business next door and knocked a hole through the connecting wall. They then went straight to the safe.

“My safe was full of handguns, boxes of handguns I remove form the shelves every night, and they got every one of them, about 100 hand guns,” Milstad said.

In addition to the handguns, Milstad said the burglars stole automatic rifles from AK47’s to AR15’s. The ATF and Homeland Security will meet with Milstad Monday to go over his inventory and determine where to go from here.

“You can’t insure this kind of stuff and I’m completely broke, they got every gun that I own,” Milstad said.

Weapons Possession Defense

A criminal defense attorney can represent you if you were arrested for weapons charges including:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Improper exhibition of a weapon
  • Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
  • Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
  • Possession of a weapon by a convicted felon
  • Firing or shooting an object into an occupied building

There are many defenses an experienced criminal defense lawyer can use in a weapons case, including self-defense, false allegation, false identification, entrapment, and improper search and seizure of the weapon. In some cases, the act you are charged with may not even be illegal. For example, if the butt of a handgun sticks out of your pocket and is visible, you cannot be charged with concealing a weapon.

Have an experienced criminal defense lawyer represent you and help you resolve your case.
